YouTube Shorts Help Slime Break Out (Again)
Back in 2018, slime content was all the rage. Creators were finding new and fun ways to bring back the 1990s trend with DIY videos, and those videos actually leaned on longer watch-times (at the time, Tubular Labs data found that 10-15 minute videos accounted for nearly half of those views).
But a lot changes in six or seven years, as an update to that Tubular data reveals...
- Looking now, slime videos accounted for 64.8 billion (!!!) views on YouTube in 2024, and 1.5 billion engagements.
- While longer-format videos were once the name of the game for slime, the 2024 update revealed a reliance on YouTube Shorts; with 78% of video views coming from that format.
- Six different creators generated over 1 billion views each from slime videos alone in 2024 too, showcasing that it was a well various accounts could keep going back to with great success.
- And 2024 wasn't even the high-water mark for slime – Tubular Labs data shows that slime videos hit 104 million views in 2023, after getting to 79.1 million views in 2022.
