Women's World Cup, First Group: The Most-Watched Matches and More
With insights from Inscape
The FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 is well underway, and for many fans, Dani Rojas' catch-phrase is the name of the game.
As we march toward the knockout stages, Inscape shared some quick viewership insights around the first set of games which took place July 20-25. During that initial group stage, WWC matches captured 0.90% of all live, linear minutes watched on TV, putting it at No. 4 on the program ranking behind the 2023 Open Championship (3.04%), GMA (0.96%) and MLB (0.96%).
The most-watched match was the U.S. vs. Vietnam, which accounted for nearly half (43.9%) of all WWC minutes watched July 20-25. The Canada vs. Nigeria game took second place for watch-time (10.9%).
Inscape also examined where U.S. tune-in was highest, and discovered that the local area markets of San Francisco-Oak-San Jose, New Orleans and Milwaukee had the highest reach.
One other tidbit from Inscape: Of course, not everyone watched the first U.S. match — The programs airing at the same time as the U.S. game on July 21 with the highest viewership share include 20/20, Dateline NBC and Major League Baseball.
