Will Hellmann's "When Harry Met Best Foods" Bring Sexy Back?

Hellmann’s is looking to bring sexy to the Super Bowl with its recreation of the iconic dinner scene from the 1989 flick “When Harry Met Sally.” “When Sally Met Best Foods” reunites Meg Ryan, Billy Crystal and that table at Katz’s Deli. But how has the ad performed so far? And can it really make Best Foods mayo a sexy condiment?
We take a look at data from iSpot to find out:
- Purchase intent on the ad, according to pre-release Creative Assessment testing, is +6 points from Hellmann's five-year average. The Sally spot is also beating the brand’s entrant from last year. “Mayo Cat,” starring Kate McKinnon and Pete Davidson, came in -5 points on purchase intent.
- Since its first airing on 1/29, the “When Sally Met Best Foods” has garnered over 1.8 million impressions and an above average attention index of 126 (100 is average).
- 2025 marks Hellmann’s fifth consecutive year advertising in the Super Bowl. Before Mayo Cat, the brand aired “Who's in the Fridge” (2023), “Mayo Tackles Food Waste” (2022), and “Fairy Godmayo” (2021). From 2024-2021, the ads scored 605, 614, 622, and 516 in effectiveness. With the exception of 2021’s “Fairy God Mayo”, Hellmann’s ads have all scored higher than the average in effectiveness for the year.
- Fun fact: Pete Davidson has appeared in 3 of Hellmann’s Super Bowl ads (2022, 2023, and 2024).
