With retailers already fully into the swing of holiday ad plans, iSpot recently looked at which retail ads were driving the most positive purchase intent – surveyed consumers indicated they were "more" or "much more" likely to buy the product after seeing the spot – since April 1. The results? Funny ads and deals performed well, though they also weren't the only ways to win with consumers.

  • Amazon scored 65% positive purchase intent with its “Back to School: Sports Stuff” ad, featuring comedic actress Michelle Buteau. The 15-second version of its longer spot scored 18 points higher than the norm for retail, and was No. 1 among all back-to-school ads.
  • Other retail spots that had high scores for positive purchase intent included The Home Depot’s “Soak in the Season,” Amazon’s “Become More” and Etsy’s “Home Refresh” (all at 63% positive purchase intent).
  • Understanding ads that have success driving purchase intent, and scoring highly in key metrics like effectiveness by different age groups allows retail brands to get ahead of holiday season with creative approaches more likely to drive positive results with consumers.
