The rise of streaming has changed the ways that audiences engage with film and television, and how studios, streamers and networks think about content.

A new survey from MX8 Labs highlights women’s evolving viewing habits, favoring drama, true crime and the convenience of at-home streaming. This reinforces the demand for high-quality storytelling and the convenience to be able to watch in the comforts of their own home.

MX8 Labs also found that 67% of women watch movies/TV daily, showcasing how ingrained television and film are in their daily lives.

Other highlights from the study include:

  • 51% of women prefer to stream movies at home vs. going to the theater — above the 46% of total respondents.
  • Convenience was the top factor for why women prefer to stream at home, cited by 77%. No crowds or noisy people was next (70%), followed by cost savings (60%).
  • TV dramas are the most popular content category with women (69%), followed by true crime documentaries (55%).
