Lindsay Lohan Makes Walmart's New Black Friday Campaign So Fetch
After last year's Office Space-inspired ads, Walmart is once again betting on nostalgia for its 2023 holiday spots, with a Mean Girls-focused campaign that kicked off on Nov. 1. The "Jingle Bell Rockin'" video is chock-full of nods to the source material, but also features three of the four stars – Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert.
- While last year's Office Space references banked on familiarity, the Mean Girls campaign takes things to another level, and also banks on the reach of Mean Girls' stars to expand the resonance of the campaign.
- All three stars were quick to post about the ad on social media – a key part of why Mean Girls was the choice to begin with. Lindsay Lohan has 30.5 million cross-platform social media followers, according to data from CreatorIQ, and her engagement rate on Instagram is deemed "excellent" at 6.11%.
- Additionally, 58% of her Instagram followers are 25-to-44 years old; a sweet spot for consumers likely to understand the references throughout the ad, AND potential parents looking for Black Friday deals leading up to this holiday season.
