The NFL's perceived "politicization" has decreased over the last five years – at least according to an annual iSpot consumer survey around the Super Bowl.

The iSpot survey has asked "to what extent the NFL has become politicized?" and consumer responses indicating both a lot more and a little more have both declined since the initial ask in 2019 – when 43% felt like the NFL had been a lot more politicized, while 34% felt it was a little more.

  • In the time since, those feeling the league is a lot more politicized has steadily fallen to just 25% of respondents in 2024.
  • Meanwhile, after an initial rise in those that felt the NFL was a little more politicized, responses there have settled into a range between 32% and 33% of those surveyed in recent years.
  • On a related note, iSpot also asked consumers if they've boycotted a brand for their political stance; in 2024, 17% said more than one, while 12% said just one brand.
  • Comparatively in 2019, 22% said more than one, with 11% saying they'd boycotted just one brand.
