Streaming Services Want More Global Content For Gen Z
The following is a selection from Brandon Katz of Parrot Analytics.
Anime's popularity comes in part from its global foothold with Gen Z audiences, and it's part of a larger future-focused strategy aimed at more globally-resonant content aimed at those younger viewers – as Parrot Analytics points out.
- In Q2 2024, anime hit Naruto contributed an estimated $21 million-plus in in U.S. and Canadian revenue for Netflix and Hulu, while My Hero Academia is projected to hit at least $15 million across four different services.
- Parrot data shows that Q1 2024's top 10 markets in global travelability for manga adaptations were populous and high-yield consumer markets: Japan, United States, China, France, Brazil, Canada, Russia, Netherlands, United Kingdom and Germany.
- For Japanese content, in particular, it's notable that over 70% of the audience for Japanese shows is made up of viewers 30 years old or younger.
