For all of those still mad about The Bear being considered a "comedy," perhaps a look at the streaming landscape informs why that's their (and others') best awards path forward.

Data from Parrot Analytics shows how in Q3 2024, nearly ever major U.S./Canada streaming service had drama as its top genre – and. most times at over 35% of its entire TV library.

  • Parrot's Content Valuation System says that Netflix led the way with over 55% of its library being considered drama, followed by Apple TV+ (49.1%) and Amazon Prime Video (48.4%).
  • Meanwhile, genres like adventure can seem relatively low; Disney+ was No. 1 there with 28.5% of its TV titles.
  • Some services punched through with other genres, though, as Paramount+ was in the mid 40s for comedy as top classification, and Max leaned similarly on reality TV content (in large part due to the library inherited from Discovery).
