The Kansas City Chiefs are back in the Super Bowl once again, so it's no surprise that the team is driving a significant amount of search traffic. But how does the team stack up against its most famous fan, Taylor Swift, in terms of volume since the start of the playoffs? We dove into some Google trends data to find out more.
- From Jan. 11-26, 2024, the Chiefs earned more search volume than Swift in all 50 U.S. states, but that was more true in some states than others.
- The Chiefs were most popular in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Iowa – all largely surrounding the team's home in Kansas City, Mo.
- But New England and the state of Washington were less locked in on the Chiefs alone; In Mass., 31% of search volume between the team and Swift belonged to the pop star. Vermont, Rhode Island and New Hampshire also came in at 29% (Washington was at 30%).
- Interestingly, the data may tell local publishers what sort of content is more likely to resonate with their audiences in the lead-up to the Super Bowl.
