Star Wars Series Demand Sputtering For Disney+

When Disney+ launched, new Star Wars content was set to be an anchor for the streaming service. Despite initial success with the first season of The Mandalorian, however, subsequent Star Wars shows have not hit the same demand highs – according to data from Parrot Analytics.

  • The first season of The Mandalorian back in 2019 – which admittedly debuted in a less-crowded streaming marketplace – had consistent demand over 100x the average for TV shows during its first 60 days.
  • But shows like Ahsoka, The Acolyte, Obi-Wan Kenobi and even the third season of The Mandalorian, have failed to reach anywhere near that demand in the first two months of their own respective releases.
  • As we look toward the future of the combined Disney+/Hulu bundle, 16 of the platform’s top 25 most in-demand shows this year didn't originate on Disney+.
