Sports a Slam Dunk for TV Ad Reach in H1
Sports programming accounted for 13% of national linear TV household ad impressions January through June 2024.
Although overall TV ad impressions were down nearly 4% year-over-year during the first half of 2024, one area scored big: sports. And according to iSpot, one of the main winners was the NBA, which was not only the No. 1 program by TV ad reach, it garnered ad attention 12% above the norm. - The NHL skated to success with the playoffs and Stanley Cup Final helping fuel a 49% year-over-year increase in TV ad impressions.
- The NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament enjoyed 2X more TV ad impressions vs. 2023, thanks in part to the Caitlin Clark effect.
- Top brands that featured athletes and/or coaches in H1 included Honda, The General, Qunol, Chase and IcyHot.
