Special Report: Viewer Trends Across the Streaming Landscape

As the war for attention rages on, streaming platforms face an increasingly competitive landscape when it comes to viewership and subscribers. And while those are two metrics often used to measure success, more is at play.

The Measure worked with MX8 Labs on a 2024 longitudinal tracking poll of 7,000+ U.S. consumers over the age of 18 to uncover insights on viewer preference, experience, content appeal and more across top subscription streaming platforms as well as free ad-supported TV services (FASTs). Intelligence such as this can be essential as platforms seek to build audiences and mitigate churn.

A few overarching takeaways from this study:

  • Across all demographics, Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube and Hulu were the most popular platforms watched by viewers. Looking specifically at FASTs, Tubi, The Roku Channel and Pluto TV were tops.
  • Younger viewers found Prime Video’s overall experience to be lacking, with the 18-24 demographic ranking it below the total average.
  • In general, movies ranked highest as the preferred content type across platforms, with original series also favored by viewers.
