Smart TVs Show Record Time in Streaming-Only for Q1
94% of total streaming time during Q1 came from smart TVs that only or mostly streamed content, per Inscape.

Smart TVs are making it easier than ever for viewers to stream content, and stream they are. But a less-than-obvious trend is that more people than ever are only streaming, as revealed by Inscape’s Q1 2024 TV Market Trends report. In fact, 94% of total streaming time during the quarter came from smart TVs that only or mostly streamed content. Inscape defines “mostly streaming” as 66-99% of viewing time.
- That’s a full percentage point up from Q4’s 93% share for combined only-or-mostly streaming.
- This means that about two thirds of smart TVs are not accessing content via cable, satellite or over-the-air antenna at all.
- Thanks to smart TV apps and devices that air live broadcast and cable network content, there’s been an increase in streaming’s share of live, linear viewing, from 15.2% in Q2 2022 to nearly 25% in Q1 2024.
