The 55+ age bracket is plenty tech-savvy, it seems – or at least tech-savvy enough to watch over 10.6 million hours of MSNBC videos across Facebook and YouTube, as new data from Tubular Labs shows.

  • In May 2024, U.S. audiences over 55 years old tuned into more minutes of MSNBC videos across those two platforms than content from any other creator. The age group watched MSNBC for 1.8x more time than Fox News, 2.1x more than NBC News, and 4.1x more than CNN.
  • MSNBC watch-time is also increasing among the 55+ group over the last year. Minutes watched were up 19% month-over-month, and over 96% compared to May 2023. A large part of that is attributable to Donald Trump’s hush money trial, as 18 of the top 20 videos from MSNBC in May revolved around the case itself or the guilty verdict.
  • Though 55+ viewers were the largest age range by minutes watched (about 63% of MSNBC’s audience), watch-time rose or was static for all U.S. age groups 18-to-24 and older. MSNBC minutes watched grew by 17% month-over-month across all age groups in May.
