Selection Sunday’s New (Ad) Faces
Brackets weren't the only place where fans could spot new faces on Selection Sunday. iSpot data shows that ads during CBS's Men's National Basketball Championship Selection Show also featured some newcomers vs. last year's program. Particularly: GEICO, Liquid I.V., Oreo, Powerade and The Home Depot.
- Over 77% of advertisers were carryovers from last year, in part as a result of NCAA corporate sponsorships, as well as broadcast partners.
- Automakers led the way both years, with 1.5 minutes of advertising during the show, with GMC and Nissan appearing both years, and Buick appearing along those two in 2023.
- After having zero ads last year, sports drinks (Liquid I.V. and Powerade) were one of the most-represented categories this year, with a minute of ad time during the selection show.
