Reality TV Rises On YouTube, Too

Entertainment work stoppages helped give reality content a boost this summer – both on TV and on YouTube. Tubular Labs data shows U.S. reality content hitting a high in August, and nearing 14 billion YouTube views on the year already.
- Interestingly, while reality show Vanderpump Rules seemed to be everywhere during the first half of 2023, that didn’t necessarily translate to an explosion of views on YouTube. The show accounted for a little over 100 million views this year, while America’s Got Talent generated over 800 million.
- AGT was also a big part of reality's surge to 2.09 billion views in August as the show shared highlights and spawned various accounts sharing clips as well.
- With some of reality's younger audiences back at school, and with the NFL season starting in September, you already saw reality content cooling off a little last month – though views were still higher than every month before summer started.
