Political CTV Ad Impressions Surged by 489% in September
A Madhive analysis reveals how political ad budgets are being deployed across the country.
As the 2024 election approaches, political candidates are leveraging CTV ads to reach specific segments of voters in key regions with the most relevant creatives. Madhive recently analyzed a sample of about 200 million CTV impressions to reveal how these ad budgets are being deployed in local media markets across the U.S., highlighting not only the domination of battleground states, but also the congressional districts being focused on.
- There was a drastic rise in political CTV ad impressions in September, leading to a 489% increase month-over-month. Advertising spiked the week before the presidential debate, and jumped again in mid-September.
- Battleground states commanded a majority of presidential CTV ads in September, with a staggering 70% going to just three: Michigan (27%), Pennsylvania (24%) and North Carolina (19%).
- Narrowing in on specific congressional districts, Nebraska’s 02 has also commanded a notable share of presidential CTV ads, ranking sixth overall. Madhive notes how this is a strategic region with a “unique electoral vote,” as it’s more evenly divided between Republican and Democrat than the rest of the state.
- Madhive’s analysis on overall (not just presidential) political CTV ads highlights how local elections and issues are driving strategies in other states, including California, Florida and Montana. In fact, Montana owns the top two congressional districts (02 and 01) for total political CTV impressions.
