Pharma Bowl?

Only four pharma ads have aired over the past 10 years. Here's a look at how they did.

Pharma Bowl?

Not so fast. Pharmaceutical brands have largely stayed away from the Super Bowl. In the past 10 years, only four pharma ads have aired, according to iSpot. One pharma ad aired in each of the following years: 2023, 2021, 2016, and 2015. A pharmaceutical company is set to advertise in 2025, though, but not for a drug. Take a look at some super insights from the pharma category below.

  • Novartis’ “Your Attention, Please” will air during this year’s Big Game and feature Hailee Steinfeld and Wanda Sykes. The ad, in partnership with national and local breast cancer advocacy groups, aims to encourage women to pay attention to their breast health.
  • DexCom’s "Feels Like Magic" (2023) was the most recent pharma Super Bowl spot to air. “Feels Like Magic,” which features Nic Jonas and the debut of glucose monitor G7, chalked up a 587 effectiveness score that year, making it slightly more effective than the average Super Bowl ad (569 on average). Jonas first appeared in the Super Bowl in 2021 in the DexCom ad “Technology,” where he promoted the G6 version of the glucose monitor. “Technology” had a 569 effectiveness score that year, coming in just above that year’s average of 562.
  • Advil’s "Distant Memory," airing during the 2016 game, also was more effective than the average Super Bowl ad that year, scoring a 631 compared to 573 on average.
  • On the other end of the effectiveness spectrum, Jublia’s 2015 ad "Tackle Toe Fungus" came in under the year’s average at a 439 effectiveness score. That was well below the 575 average that year.
