Olympics Are Over, But NBC Remains No. 1 for TV Network Watch-Time

Each week, we highlight the most-watched shows and networks using insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching). Here's a look at the top 25 networks by viewership share for August 12-18 — head over to TVREV to see the program ranking and get insights about the top shows by watch-time.

After a few weeks of utterly crushing other TV networks in terms of watch-time thanks to the Olympics, NBC saw its viewership share fall down to a more regular 6.59% — but it was still enough to take first place on the ranking. Programs driving viewership included Today, PGA Tour golf, NBC Nightly News With Lester Holt and America’s Got Talent

Some additional insights around the most-watched TV networks:

  • Fox News remains in second place but increased its viewership share from 5.88% previously to 6.35%, with top programs including America's Newsroom with Bill Hemmer & Dana Perino, America Reports with John Roberts & Sandra Smith and Fox & Friends.
  • CBS, ABC, TBS, The CW and Oxygen all retain their previous chart positions, but each saw an increase in minutes watched week-over-week.
  • ESPN moves up four spots to take seventh place, with watch-time primarily fueled by the Little League Baseball World Series and SportsCenter.
  • Week-over-week ranking newcomers included TLC (up from No. 26 previously to No. 24) and History (from No. 32 to No. 25)
