Native OS Streaming Soars

It's been known for awhile that the dongle is dying, but recent research from Hub reveals even more around OEM operating system dominance. Hub’s 2023 Connected Home Report shows that in Q1 2023, 88% of smart TV households were streaming via native OS – up from 75% in Q1 2020.

  • With smart TV households also growing in that time period, there isn’t much upside left for third-party devices.
  • These trends are a major boost for OEMs, however, as TV manufacturers continue to add a significant amount of content to their own native operating systems built into devices.
