Publishers and website owners of all sorts have been optimizing for mobile for years, but pageviews data from Chartbeat shows that in many regions around the world, mobile should be the starting point – with desktop being the extension.

  • Chartbeat data shows that in Q4 2024, at least 67% of pageviews on articles came from mobile devices, and most regions were at 70% or above (Central Asia led the way there at 87%).
  • Interestingly, North America saw a slight decline for mobile quarter-over-quarter from 69% to 67%, but that small dip doesn't change the fact that two-thirds of traffic is still coming via mobile.
  • Insights like these help guide where publishers should be investing – both geographically and by device. Mobile's overwhelming dominance, especially in regions like Central Asia, Southeast Asia and Africa, where very few (relative to the whole) pageviews are coming from anywhere but mobile.
