Media Companies Grow Social Reach
The WGA went on strike on May 2, potentially putting major U.S. media companies in a bind for content. Despite a lack of new scripted content, though, these giants actually increased unique U.S. viewers across YouTube and Facebook in May. Tubular Labs’ Audience Ratings shows Comcast, Paramount, Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery all had their highest unique viewer totals of the last 12 months, while leaning on a combination of movie trailers, sports highlights and short videos.
- Comcast unique viewers in May grew by 17% month-over-month, while WBD climbed by 14%.
- Both companies found success with trailers for potential summer blockbusters like Fast X and Oppenheimer for Comcast, and Barbie, Meg 2: The Trench and The Flash for WBD.
