Fox News Rises As Top TV Network By Watch-Time
Each week, we highlight the most-watched shows and networks using insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching). Between coverage of the assassination attempt on President Trump, and the lead-up to this week's Republican National Convention, watch-time on Fox News rose considerably from 6.29% of minutes watched from July 1-7, to 8.67% from July 8-14. Along with overall increases for Fox News watch-time, weekend editions of weekday shows also drove viewership share growth for those programs.
Additional trends in the network ranking:
- MSNBC (from No. 11 to No. 8) and CNN (from No. 13 to No. 9) also saw significant week-over-week watch-time climbs in reaction to the weekend's news.
- Shark Week programming helped Discovery Channel swim from No. 28 to No. 17 week-over-week as the network ate up 1.11% of minutes watched).
- Bravo (from No. 26 to No. 23) and History Channel (from No. 27 to No. 25) were the other week-over-week newcomers in our ranking.
