Do TV Audiences Need Local Flavor?

Audiences are torn about whether they need local broadcast stations to feel sufficiently informed, as TVREV’s report, Local TV: Perils & Promise In the Age of Streaming, notes.
- According to the report, 35% of respondents (all over 25 years old) stated they would feel sufficiently informed by other sources if their local broadcast stations shut down.
- But 27% felt they wouldn't be – meanwhile, 38% said they were unsure – which creates some uncertainty around how vital local broadcast is seen in today's sea of information.
- Being okay with moving on from local broadcast seems correlated in part to age. The report also found that over 40% of audiences 25-to-54 would be fine with local broadcast going away, while less than 30% of respondents 55 and older felt the same way.
