As part of its Q2 TV Market Trends report, Inscape examined the share of time spent streaming across traditional publishers with direct-to-consumer apps vs. those that are streaming-first/program aggregator services. To put it simply, the streaming-first publishers are crushing it.

  • Over 87% of the time spent streaming in Q2 came from streaming-first publishers.
  • Time spent streaming via traditional publishers reached a low point in Q2 of 12.9%.
  • The average number of apps used per smart TV has stabilized over the last year at around 5.5 apps, signaling an upper limit to how many apps consumers are willing to use.
