Hit shows can drive significant demand for streaming services, but some are able to sustain that audience interest both throughout season one and into the offseason. Parrot Analytics data looks at a few top shows from recent years, and how they both drove initial demand, and sustained (or didn't) once new episodes weren't appearing anymore after each season wrapped.

  • Ted Lasso, in particular, had a sustained burst of popularity throughout its first season, then a limited demand dropoff as more viewers discovered the Apple TV+ series and tuned in.
  • Once shows are established as hits, engagement levels out and becomes more frontloaded for subsequent seasons – creating larger offseason dropoff with fewer viewers trying to catch up.
  • Understanding the ebbs and flows of audience demand season-over-season gives services a more sustainable approach toward show rollouts that help prevent some subscriber turnover.
