Data: Smart TV App Usage Plateaus
Viewers may be streaming more than ever, but new data from Inscape reveals that smart TV app usage has leveled off — a signal that consumers may be fatigued by the sheer volume of content and how to find exactly what they want to watch. A few specifics from Inscape’s Q4 2023 TV Market Trends report:
- In Q4 2021, the average number of native apps used per smart TV was about 2.6.
- By Q2 2023, that number had doubled to 5.4 apps per TV, and stayed remarkably steady through the end of the year with just a slight uptick to 5.5 apps in Q4.
- This could be a technological harbinger of the rise of streaming bundles not unlike cable bundling and tier packaging.
