CBS Pumps Up Primetime Procedurals
Crime procedurals made up nearly half of the top programs by primetime impressions on CBS from Sept. 1, 2023-April 30, 2024, per iSpot.tv
CBS played to its strengths (namely football and procedurals) to successfully navigate the disrupted 2023-24 TV schedule. A recent study of the TV season by iSpot.tv reveals that CBS was the No. 1 network by share of household TV ad impressions (8.37%) across all linear networks from Sept. 1 through April 30, and ranked third by primetime SOV (9.22%).
- CBS grew linear TV ad impressions by 11% year-over-year, while ad airings increased 3.4%.
- NFL games (including the Super Bowl) generated 21% more TV ad impressions YoY, while college football impressions increased by 62%.
- Reruns of popular crime procedurals such as NCIS helped CBS fill in the primetime schedule gaps, with the genre making up nearly half of its top 15 primetime programs.
- Top programming (by ad impressions SOV) across all dayparts included NFL games, The Price Is Right and The Young and the Restless.
