Brooklyn Nets Win NBA (TikTok) Title
It's hard to be much further than the Brooklyn Nets were from the top of the NBA standings this year (their 26 wins were 32 behind the Oklahoma City Thunder's league-leading 68). But that didn't deter the team on TikTok, as data from Tubular Labs reveals.
- The Nets led the league by far on TikTok, with 340 views over the course of the 2024-25 season; 190 more than the closest team (the Dallas Mavericks, at 150 million).
- With wins at a premium on the court, Brooklyn seemed to do a great job showcasing players on the team and leaning into larger cultural memes to keep fans engaged with the squad on the platform.
- At times, other social channels can ebb and flow significantly for pro (and college) teams based on how successful they are during a given season. But interestingly, team success seemed to have little to do with how NBA teams performed on TikTok this year – with the Thunder ranking last in views, with just four million.
- TikTok success for teams like the Nets (and Spurs and Suns, who also missed the playoffs but had higher views than most teams) is an excellent playbook for how sports clubs don't have to lean on wins to drive engagement and can utilize smart social video strategies to connect with fans around community, memes or other relatable content.
