The following is a selection from Brandon Katz of Parrot Analytics.

From early 2020 through Q2 2024, global supply of streaming original titles climbed by 296% according to data from Parrot Analytics. While that indicates some aggressive growth, the rate also starts slowing significantly in 2023, before freefalling more recently.

  • Even with a slight increase in Q1 2024, the growth rate of streaming original titles has declined during five of the last six quarters, dipping to just 3.9% last quarter.
  • The decrease becomes even more stark when comparing recent growth rates to 2022, when each quarter saw 8% or higher increases.
  • It's all indicative of a variety of entertainment shifts, from stock price and box office struggles, to overall budget pullbacks and the continued impact of last year's work stoppages.
